Of Kombalanas and Gillambadas
There are 2 categories of people in this world. Category 1: We know them and they know us! Category 2: We don’t know them and still they know us! Let us call these category 2 people as strangers. Both these categories can be further divided on the basis on gender! Let us admit it, females of category 2 are real nuisances. How dare they come and handle us, hug and smooch us? Who gave them the authority to do all this? And believe us, these females are truly inconsequential! Those discussions will not take us anywhere and it is the same questions asked over and over again! We like to converse with male strangers, as they don’t “man”-handle us. One striking thing here is that, they have variety in the questions they ask. We love to shake hands with them, give a salute to them and tell our names. On the other hand, if the stranger is a female, we purposefully try to avoid them. Heeee……Once we used to wonder what makes us so famous among strangers. They say we look alike and thus they make a big fuss when they see us! We don’t look alike, and category 1 people know that. Let us introduce those category 1 people to all of you!
Amma: Our best employee so far. We maintain a very professional relationship. In short, there is no point in complaining – If anything is to be done by her and it will not cause harm to anyone, she will do it. If not, no point in going for an argument. We have not won so far.
Achan: Another good employee. Negative point is that he lacks discipline! Manhandles us, at times. This is when we go to one corner of the room and stand there, showing our back and make sure that our lips are tightly sealed and protrude the maximum it can. Then, all others will understand that we are angry
Achamma: A 24*7, high performing, highly sincere, highly available, “legacy” helpdesk! Achachan: A combination of the above 2 characters!
Cheriachan: A unique mistake by god! Possibly of the same age as ours, but huge in appearance! Best suited for the role of kombalaana and Ravanan when it comes to role-plays!
We didn’t tell you what kombalaanas are. You know them right? They come for festivals and can be spotted on the roads at times! They are big and black in color! When they wear that jewellery, it’s a nice thing to see. And Gillambada is what we call the music that accompanies these kombalaanas! The pronounciation may be different, but you get used to it as we speak in person
Note : This is a blog post about my nephews - my brother's kids and was written when they were just 3 years old. Time has changed and now they are 7 and I must admit that I should take it off by the time they start blog reading :-)
